The Joint Commission Director, JCI Patient Safety in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois

Overview

The Director, JCI Patient Safety is responsible for providing technical support in development, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on the “JCI Pathways ”, a road map which describes the patient safety and quality journey organizations take as they transform from an organization where patient harm occurs on a daily basis to an organization where there is zero patient harm. This will involve working with ministries of health and healthcare organizations, in various stage of development, to bring about nationwide improvements in the safety of health care, by creating pathways for their patient safety journey for stepwise and incremental improvements, and transformative changes leading to JCI recognition on achievement of agreed milestones.

Working closely with key national and international partners, the Director, JCI Patient Safety will also develop, refine and pilot-test the Patient Safety assessment tools for placing healthcare organizations on the “JCI Pathways ”. The Director will work with the communications, project management, IT, Marketing, Finance teams and other key stakeholders to develop the value proposition, development model and advocacy materials for the “JCI Pathways ”, and develop an effective information capture system to collect data from healthcare organizations in a comprehensive and robust manner and ensure that the project achieves its key milestones in a timely manner. In order to support countries and healthcare organizations inimplementation (https://jointcommission-my.sharepoint.com/personal/ndhingra_jcrinc_com/Documents/Documents/ANEI/JCI_Neelam%20Dhingra%20WPSD%202024_ANEI_INDIA%20.pptx?web=1) of the action plans,the Director will also explore opportunities of fund-raising, support in developing fund-raising project proposals including technical and financial components, and in reporting on progress in implementation to the financial donors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in development, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on “JCI Pathways ”, which describes the patient safety and quality journey that organizations take as they transform from an organization where patient harm occurs on a daily basis to an organization where there is zero patient harm.

  • Develop the Patient Safety assessment tool/s, aligned with the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030, that will enable JCI to place healthcare organizations on the “JCI Pathways ”. This could involve adapting JCI’s existing assessment tools, such JCI Navigator, for organizational safety and quality.

  • Create and operationalize appropriate, valid, and cost-effective methods, training, and capacity building for patient safety needs assessments.

  • Contribute to developing fund-raising project proposals including technical and financial components, and in reporting to financial donors on progress in implementation.

  • Contribute to oversight of the technical assistance proposal and implementation, as well as data management to demonstrate improvements.

  • Working with IT, key internal stakeholders, and subject matter experts, develop a comprehensive and robust IT / information capture system which will facilitate data collection from organizations/health care facilities seeking to understand their position on the “JCI Pathways ”.

  • Develop and define project goals, activities, work plans and milestones with timelines for the “JCI Pathways ” initiative.

  • Undertake mapping and research of other patient safety and quality assessment tools used by NGOs or other patient safety and quality organizations and explore collaboration opportunities.

  • Collaborate with other internal stakeholders such as communications, publications, consulting, and education to align the development efforts of the “JCI Pathways ” initiative with other JCR/JCI Strategic Planning project teams.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. The level of knowledge and experience equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a master’s degree in science, healthcare or related field required.

  2. 10+ years of experience in healthcare or business, with five years of global (non-US) work experience. Previous experience in project management is highly desirable.

  3. Conceptual understanding of the principles of patient safety assessment of healthcare organizations.

  4. Ability to develop fund-raising project proposals and produce donor reports for diverse range of developmental partners, funding agencies, foundations, and donor countries.

  5. Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of research methodologies in clinical or healthcare, to develop research studies, design data collection systems, interpret research and evaluation results and oversee project budgets.

  6. Managerial ability to plan, organize, and synthesize complex research and evaluation activities involving a wide range of individuals, groups, and/or committees.

  7. Possess a supportive, service oriented, mission centric attitude with a demonstrated ability to attain results creatively and in a timely fashion. Able to work collaboratively, sets high personal standards and delivers to those requirements.

  8. Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals at various levels both inside and outside the organization and often in sensitive situations requiring political awareness.

  9. High degree of proficiency in application software suite for business communications, presentation, data management and project management.
